Pressx1: 115 (then failed at 120lb, then failed at 115). PPx3: 135 (maybe could have done a little more; after Ben cued feet hip apart knees out hard I felt stronger). PJx5: 135 (2 sets then out of time, could have worked higher, I think).
Worked with James, just like old times. It's great to see him at 6am, strong as ever.
Ben: thanks for the rock'n the Clash today. The gym felt just like the mean streets of 1970s London this morning.
115 was a PR+5, but that is after 18 months. I guess I need to work on these. I haven't done much of this since then -- I suppose it doesn't improve much without actually putting in the reps.
It's a lift that's almost as technical as the snatch, but seems like it should be so much easier. It takes a lot of time to learn to recruit your legs, abs and back to move the weight overhead.
And the gap between putting 110 and 115 over your head is SO BIG!
Interesting. I had figured that the straight press was almost purely shoulder/arm strength, and everything else just had to stay locked down to support it. I never thought it was technical. Maybe that is (part of) the problem....
WOD: Press 68, Push Press 83, Push Jerk only made 4 reps at 93
I got my first Dead Hang Pullup post class and with the push of Colleen, Adam and Coach B got a few more. Happy Friday!
WooHoo -- way to go!!
Congrats!! I wish I had stuck around (stupid work)
Press - 68, fail at 73Push Press - 78, two full sets here, and just ran out of gas on the last rep of the last setPush Jerk - not an auspicious start failing at 63, but worked through the technique and stayed a little after to hit a couple sets of 78
Biggest bonus of staying a little later is witnessing LaLa's pullups - 2 sets of 2 - and Adam stringing 2 muscle ups together - twice!
Go morning crew - and some old school Clash ...
Got to work with Long this morning...though we were both put to shame by James F (dang, he's got strong shoulders!).
Press - up to 145#; Push Press - up to 165#; Push Jerk - up to 145# (really trying to focus on footwork...Coach B gave me some techniwue homework).
SUPER STOKED to watch LaLa get her first dead hang pull-ups...she was doing singles, but they looked so easy, I think she could can string a few together. And, apparently she was inspiring, as I was able to string together consecutive muscle ups for the first time.
Good times all around for the 6amers!
Nice work stringing a few together!
I must correct Adam, for there was no shame being thrown out there today. My #s are almost identical to his: Press to #155 x 1 (missed on #165), Push Press to #165 x 3 (hit #175 x 1, but failed on the subsequent attempts), and Push Jerk to #155x5 (only got 2 sets and ran out of time). I think Long was throwing around the most weight. Regardless, it was a great crew this AM and it's always fun working with CLee. Big congrats to Lala on the dead hang pull ups! Also, very impressive muscle ups fom Adam and Long after class. One day I will get one myself!
Press: 110, failed 115. Not a PR, but tied a previous best from years ago.
Push Press: 130 best set.
Push Jerk: 130 best set. Failed 135. I'm struggling with the techique on these, I have a mental block that stops me from getting too low because I feel off balance. Split jerk feels way safer to me for some reason. Anyway, I have something to work on here.
Thanks to Ben and Oli for the help this morning.
Press: up to 73#x1, tried 78 and failed (amazing what those little 2.5lb plates can do!) Push Press: up to 83#x3 Push Jerk: up to 93#x5, only had time for 3 sets, wanted to hit over 100~ next time!
Finally seeing overhead progress after a long time of rehab and relearning.
Press 63,73,83,93, failed 103, 98
Had a blast with Melissa D and Linds. Great job all around and a shout out to Digs for breaking the 100# barrier on the jerk at the buzzer.
Press: 53/58/63/63/63Push Press: 63/68(fail)/63/63/63Push Jerk: 5x58
After class I tried doing 30 burpees for time to compare to what we did in Elements a few weeks ago. I only got to 20 before I could hardly move and even that took me almost 2:00...! :( This is what I'm going to be working on for September since I don't think I'm going to be doing thrusters with half my body weight anytime soon. :)
Press- 45-55-55-60-failed 65
Push Press- 45-55-60-60-65
Push Jerk- 55-60-70 (failed 5th rep)-75 (failed 4th rep). Ran out of time to do the 5th set.
Wasn't feeling too stong today :(
Press to 73#
Push Press to 73#
Push Jerk to 73# (but only 3 reps)
Hurt my back big time a few months ago doing the push jerk so I get kind of freaked out when the weight gets high.
Awesome working with Sylvia and Digs! I legit jumped up and down with Digs broke 100#
You both were awesome! Thanks for the cheers(and jumping)!
not feeling great this evening, so sore!
wicked impressed with Vin and Steph A's limbo ability :)
63/63/73 flat sets for all
Diva Dash tomorrow!
Yay 6:30! Limbo warmup was a great touch.
Great working with Nam in the WOD!
Push Press: 145#
Push Jerk: 125#, some fatigue started to set in, but mostly poor technique was the culprit here. Really need to work on getting under the weight and some coordination.
Got there early and did some 6x EMOM rope climbs. No legs allowed. Should have gone for 8...next time.
Press 1x105#, PP 3x130#, PJ 4x145#
Disappointed that I didn't get that 5th rep. Simply do to lack of focus...next time.
Went in today to get the RM back squat with Katie F, with whom a little TMI/therapy session pre-RM eased some nerves. Great tips, encouragement and support all around, particularly from Katie, Jaffney and Paul. Hit 190#, which is +5 from a couple of weeks ago, +10 from the start of the squat cycle. Failed twice at 195 but will continue to work on form as this is where the sticking point is for me (in the chest dip).
Decided to get a little met-con in and chose 'Annie': 9:30, working with a brand new rope that is a little longer and was able to consistently string together 10-12 reps each round; stomach cramps with the sit ups slowed me down but was shooting for sub 10 minute today and happy all around.
...gorgeous redhead squatting a ton of weight in the gym today. She seemed like, really smart and charming and stuff too.
Meanwhile, I did my own thing during open gym. Working on my Oly lifts a lot lately, so today's WOD fit in perfectly.
Full clean: 95 x 3, 115 X 3, 135 X 3, 155 X 3, 165 X 1, 175 X 1, 185 X 1 (PR).
Power cleaned 195 a couple of times, but couldn't get under it. Maybe next week.
Press 155 X 1
Push Press 165 X 3 -- hit 175 X 2 but got stuck halfway up on the 3rd rep.
Push Jerk 165 X 5 (PR)
Another great day at H2O!
I heard she's taken :/
Congrats on the clean PR though!
Hit up Open Gym today with Courtney to get our squat on. So glad she and Paul were there for support and encouragement! It's much different doing this without a class full of people! Thanks to coach Jaffney as well who gave great advise and was our videographer!
Back Squat - 180#; this matches my previous PR, so I was a little disappointed not to gain any ground on this. Tried 185# twice, but had to bail both times. For some reason, I get stuck in the bottom and psych myself out. A bit frustrating since its ONLY 5 POUNDS! I'll get there....someday!
Stuck around to do Annie again with Court, but the DUs were just not happening today.
PR:93/93/83 Coach Ben pushed me today and I had a great class, andbI worked with a great group. Thanks Coach B!
Ian and I are home in PA this weekend and we went to the Ridley Sports Club and did this overhead pressing WOD. Figured I'd post my sets so no one asssumes I spent the last four months as the proverbial prodigal couch potato
Push Press: 135x3, 145x3, 155x3, 165x1,fail,fail 155x3
Push Jerk: 135x5,145x5,155x5,135x5,135x5
I sure don't like missing lifts but they were all PR attempts. Previous PR on press was 130, previous PR on Push Press was 160. So I hit two 5# PRs today.
See you all in a month or so when I start coming back :)
